Eta Chapter and Alpha Alpha Chapter had a joint meeting on September 28, 2019 at 10:00 am at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Frostburg, MD. Kim Sloane, Eta Chapter President, and Cindy Downton, Alpha Alpha Chapter President, welcomed everyone and introduced the officers in each chapter. For the opening ceremonies, everybody sang "This is How It's Spelled-A" to the tune of Bingo which went, "There is a great society, Called Delta Kappa Gamma: D-E-L-T-A K-A-P-P-A G-A-M-M-A and that is how it's spelled, A!"
Michelle Saville, Eta, provided inspiration by reading the book, "Each Kindness," by Jacqueline Woodson. Florence Saku, Eta, led the ice breaker by sharing about how one person made a difference in her life: Kim Sloane who invited her to join DKG. Everyone shared their stories with a partner. The two chapters went on separate rooms for chapter meetings and then reconvened for lunch. During the Eta Chapter meeting, Kim Sloane shared how (mis)adventurous it was to secure the #1 balloons for the meeting. To welcome DKG State President Lorraine Johnson, everybody sang, "She'll be Coming Round the Mountain." Lorraine then gave her message on being the ONE and being ONE with the group. She also mentioned how, being from New Orleans, she appreciated seeing the mountains of Maryland and thanked Immediate Past State President Sharon Darling for driving with her to Frostburg. Cindy Downton and Kim Sloane then presented gifts to Lorraine Johnson. Cindy Downton presented a chopping board made from the different woods found in Garrett County. Kim Sloane presented a basket of local items and a treasure box painted depicting four seasons of the Mountains of Maryland. The treasure box was painted by Mildred Watkins, Eta. The DKG Blessing written by Betty Hepler was sung, and everyone shared a meal. There were 16 members in attendance from Alpha Alpha Chapter. It was a beautiful day. There was a clear sky and the sun was shining. Leaves were beginning to change to autumn hues. The timing was perfect for DKG State President Lorraine Johnson's visit to Western Maryland.
